Alan Hutton is the Scottish international player, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur, the Premier League team. Aged just 26 years old, Hutton is recognised as one of the best attacking right back in the country. He started his professional football career with Rangers FC in Scotland in 2000. It took him only two years to make his professional debut for the Scottish team in the match against Partick Thistle.
The 2003-04 season was the first proper season for Alan Hutton, who made eleven appearances for the first team during that period. It was in the 2004 season that he scored his first goal for Rangers in the match against Dunfermline Athletic. Despite making a number of appearances in the third season with Rangers, he lost his place at the start of the 2005-2006 season mainly because of an injury.
He broke his leg and was kept on the sidelines for up to eight months. Despite it, Alan Hutton made a successful comeback into the team by making 23 appearances in the season. It was by far the best season for Alan Hutton and he was rewarded with a new contract in 2007. In the 2007-08 season, he took part in the Champions League campaign for Rangers, which brought to the attention of various clubs in England.
Tottenham were the first to register a proper interest in the player and he was transferred to the English club for fee of around £9 million. He made his debut for Tottenham in a match against Manchester United, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Despite being relatively young in comparison with the other contenders for the right back spot, Alan Hutton continued to impress and hold a regular first-team spot. He made important appearances for Tottenham in the matches against Chelsea in the League Cup final in 2008.
He helped Tottenham take their first trophy after many years. Despite impressing initially, Alan Hutton found playing time to be limited with Tottenham, which led him to search for regular playing time by moving on loan. In the end, Alan Hutton signed for another Premier League team Sunderland at the end of the January transfer window in 2010. He impressed during his loan spell with Sunderland and they were keen to sign Alan Hutton on a permanent transfer.
However, the fee demanded by Tottenham proved to be the stumbling block and it ultimately paved the way for his return to his parent club Tottenham at the end of the 2010-11 season.
Alan Hutton has also represented the Scottish national team on 20 occasions, although he is yet to score a goal, but it is more due to his playing position more than anything else. Alan Hutton has also represented the various levels of the Scottish national team.
So far, in his career, Alan Hutton has won the Scottish Premier League title in the 2004-05 season. Other achievements include winning the Football League Cup in the 2007–08 season and Barclays Asia Trophy in 2009.
